Artist Statement: My art is self-taught. I use acrylic, house paint, and spray paint for most of my paintings, and sometimes include collage in my work. I paint in my makeshift studio from my home in Marysville, California. My work is influenced by raw graffiti styles, outsider art, and folk art. Some of my work is inspired from my Melungeon background (http://www.melungeon.org) and I often paint peoples from Appalachian culture. Most of my Ideas usually stem from my life experiences or from what I see in the daily interactions of others. Usually the ideas come as I sit down and paint with no plan in mind and kinds free form into the final image.Similar to a lot of artists I have always done art since I was a child. But mostly I did sketches and drawings. I only began painting for about 10 years now. What got me started doing art was that I have been blessed with the diagnoses of being Bi-Polar. Lucky me right? It came as a natural way for me to express myself and cope with life. Art has always been something that I got praised for, from friends and family so that positivity encourages me to keep creating art. Mark Fox Art Copyright © 2009. All rights reserved. |
